Wiz Khalifa is a Pittsburgh rapper whose laid-back style and pop instincts turned him into one of hip-hop’s most reliable hitmakers. Born Cameron Jibril Thomaz on September 8, 1987, he built a following through mixtapes before signing with Atlantic Records.
Black and Yellow
His major-label debut single “Black and Yellow” (2010), a tribute to Pittsburgh, reached number one and set up his album Rolling Papers (2011), home to “Roll Up” and “No Sleep”.
Crossover hits
“Young, Wild & Free”, a 2011 team-up with Snoop Dogg featuring Bruno Mars, became a summer anthem, and “Payphone” with Maroon 5 reached number two in 2012. Blacc Hollywood (2014) became his first number-one album.
See You Again
In 2015 Khalifa and Charlie Puth released “See You Again”, a tribute to actor Paul Walker for the Furious 7 soundtrack. It spent twelve weeks at number one and became one of the best-selling singles of all time.
Taylor Gang
He founded the Taylor Gang label and has stayed prolific across albums and mixtapes, including Rolling Papers 2 (2018). His easygoing, party-minded sound has kept him a streaming favorite.
