Stevie Nicks is an American singer-songwriter, born in Phoenix in 1948, known for her work with Fleetwood Mac and a long solo career. Her husky voice, mystical image and songwriting made her one of rock’s most recognizable figures.
Fleetwood Mac
She joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 with Lindsey Buckingham and wrote some of their best-known songs, including “Rhiannon”, “Landslide” and “Dreams”, the band’s only US number one. Their 1977 album Rumours became one of the best-selling records ever.
Bella Donna
In 1981 she launched a solo career with Bella Donna, which topped the chart. It featured “Edge of Seventeen”, the Tom Petty collaboration “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around”, and “Leather and Lace” with Don Henley.
Stand Back
Her 1983 album The Wild Heart brought “Stand Back”, a track Prince quietly played on. She kept up both her solo work and her on-and-off run with Fleetwood Mac for decades.
A lasting influence
Younger artists keep returning to her: she featured on Lana Del Rey‘s “Beautiful People Beautiful Problems” and recently sang “Landslide” with Sabrina Carpenter. She is one of the few artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.
