Avicii was a Swedish DJ and producer who helped carry electronic dance music onto pop radio in the early 2010s. Born Tim Bergling on September 8, 1989, in Stockholm, he started posting remixes online as a teenager and blended house music with folk and country touches.

He broke through in 2011 with “Levels”, an instrumental that became one of the defining EDM tracks of the decade.

His 2013 debut album True paired electronic production with live instruments and guest vocals. “Wake Me Up”, featuring Aloe Blacc, reached number four in the US, topped charts in more than twenty countries, and became one of the most-Shazamed songs ever. “Hey Brother” and “Addicted to You” followed.
Stories and collaborations
Stories (2015) brought “Waiting for Love”, and he worked with David Guetta on “Sunshine” and with Coldplay‘s Chris Martin on songs including “A Sky Full of Stars”. Charlie Puth has named him a major influence on his production.
Legacy
Avicii stepped back from touring in 2016 to focus on his health and his studio work. He died in 2018 at the age of 28. His posthumous album Tim (2019) and the diamond-certified “Wake Me Up” keep his music in heavy rotation.
