The Chainsmokers are an American DJ and production duo, Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, who turned EDM-pop into one of the defining sounds of the mid-2010s. Formed in New York City, they started out remixing indie tracks before scoring hits of their own.
From #Selfie to Roses
Their 2014 novelty single “#Selfie” was a viral dance hit, and 2015’s “Roses” pushed them onto pop radio. “Don’t Let Me Down” with Daya won the Grammy for Best Dance Recording.
Closer
Their biggest moment came with “Closer” featuring Halsey in 2016. It spent twelve consecutive weeks at number one, and it made them the first act to land four chart-toppers on the Dance/Electronic Songs chart, passing Calvin Harris.
Memories…Do Not Open
Their debut album Memories…Do Not Open (2017) entered the chart at number one and featured “Something Just Like This” with Coldplay, which became a stadium-sized anthem, plus “Paris”.
A steady output
The duo kept releasing albums through Sick Boy (2018), World War Joy (2019) and So Far So Good (2022), built a long-running Las Vegas residency, and remain festival headliners.
