Halsey

The American singer behind Closer, Without Me and Bad at Love, who turned confessional alt-pop into a string of crossover hits.

Halsey is an American singer and songwriter who broke through with confessional, alt-leaning pop and a string of crossover hits. Born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane on September 29, 1994, in Edison, New Jersey, she built an early following from self-released music online.

Badlands

Her 2015 debut Badlands introduced her with “New Americana”, “Colors” and “Gasoline”, earning critical praise and a platinum certification.

Closer

In 2016 she co-wrote and sang on “Closer” with The Chainsmokers, which spent twelve weeks at number one and became one of the most-streamed songs of its era. Her second album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom (2017), debuted at number one.

Without Me and collaborations

“Without Me” (2018) became her first solo number one. She also reached the top ten with “Eastside” alongside Benny Blanco and Khalid, and joined BTS on “Boy with Luv” in 2019.

Manic and beyond

Manic (2020) became her biggest-selling album, followed by the rock-leaning If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power (2021) and The Great Impersonator (2024). She has been candid about her mental health and is a vocal advocate.
