Calvin Harris is one of the most successful DJs and producers of the streaming era, the architect of dozens of dance-pop anthems. Born Adam Richard Wiles on January 17, 1984, in Dumfries, Scotland, he started out making tracks in his bedroom and self-releasing them online.
The breakthrough
His early albums I Created Disco (2007) and Ready for the Weekend (2009) made him a star in the UK. International fame arrived when he wrote, produced and featured on Rihanna‘s “We Found Love” (2011), his first number one on the Hot 100.
18 Months and Motion
18 Months (2012) set a record for the most UK top-ten singles from one album and gathered vocalists from Rihanna to Florence Welch. Motion (2014) carried “Summer”, “Blame” and “Outside”, and he reunited with Rihanna on “This Is What You Came For”.
The collaborator
Harris has built much of his catalogue around guests. “One Kiss” with Dua Lipa and “Promises” with Sam Smith both topped the UK chart, while “Feels”, featuring Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams, became a 2017 summer hit.
Funk Wav Bounces
On Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 (2017) he reinvented himself as a funk and disco producer, working with Frank Ocean, Migos and others. He has won a Grammy and topped Forbes’ list of the highest-paid DJs for years running.
