Maluma is one of the artists who carried reggaeton from Medellin to the top of global charts. Born Juan Luis Londono Arias on January 28, 1994, in Medellin, Colombia, he signed with Sony Music as a teenager and built a sound that mixes reggaeton, Latin trap and pop.
The breakthrough
His 2012 debut Magia introduced him at home, but Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy (2015) broke him internationally. By 2017 “Felices los 4” was a billion-view smash, and F.A.M.E. (2018) topped the Latin albums chart.
The big collaborations
Maluma has worked with some of the biggest names in music. “Chantaje” and “Clandestino” paired him with Shakira, “Medellin” put him on Madonna‘s album Madame X, and a remix of his song “Hawai” featured the Weeknd.
The albums
He kept a steady run with 11:11 (2019), the surprise-released Papi Juancho (2020) and Don Juan (2023), and voiced a character in Disney’s Encanto in 2021. He has sold more than 18 million records.
Beyond music
Back home he started the El Arte de los Suenos foundation to bring arts programs to young people in Medellin. He remains one of the best-selling Latin artists of his era.
