Usher

The Atlanta-raised King of R&B behind Confessions, Yeah! and OMG, with eight Grammys and a Super Bowl halftime show.

Usher has spent three decades as one of the defining voices of R&B, a singer and dancer often called the King of R&B. Born Usher Terry Raymond IV on October 14, 1978, in Dallas and raised in Atlanta, he signed to LaFace at 14 and released his first album at 15.

The rise

My Way (1997) and 8701 (2001) turned him from a teen star into a polished R&B singer, with “U Got It Bad” and the Grammy-winning “U Remind Me” and “U Don’t Have to Call”.

Confessions

Confessions (2004) was a phenomenon, selling close to 20 million copies worldwide. “Yeah!”, with Lil Jon and Ludacris, held number one for 12 weeks, and “Burn”, “Confessions Part II” and the Alicia Keys duet “My Boo” all became hits. The album won three Grammys.

Later hits

He stayed on top with “Love in This Club”, “OMG” and the EP track “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love”. He guested on Jay-Z‘s “Hot Tottie” and, as a mentor, recorded “Somebody to Love” with Justin Bieber, whose career he helped launch through their label RBMG.

Still headlining

He returned in 2024 with the album Coming Home and headlined the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show, watched by more than 120 million people. He has sold over 100 million records and won eight Grammy Awards.
