Tyler, the Creator turned an internet shock-rapper reputation into one of the most respected catalogues in modern hip-hop. Born Tyler Gregory Okonma on March 6, 1991, in Hawthorne, California, he taught himself music and built the Odd Future collective as a teenager.
Odd Future
Founded in 2007, Odd Future launched several careers, including Frank Ocean and Earl Sweatshirt. Tyler produced much of its raw early output, and his 2011 album Goblin, powered by the “Yonkers” video, made him a polarizing star. His earliest records leaned on deliberately provocative lyrics he would later move past.
The turn
Wolf (2013) and Cherry Bomb (2015) pushed his production toward jazz, soul and R&B. Flower Boy (2017) was the breakthrough, a melodic, introspective record that earned wide acclaim and his first Grammy nomination, losing to Kendrick Lamar.
Back-to-back Grammys
Igor (2019) and Call Me If You Get Lost (2021) both debuted at number one and won Best Rap Album, cementing his standing as a critical and commercial force. Each leaned on a new character and a self-produced sound.
Chromakopia and beyond
Chromakopia (2024) and Don’t Tap the Glass (2025) also opened at number one. Across his career he has built the Golf Wang fashion line and the Camp Flog Gnaw festival, and won a third Grammy in 2026.
