Skrillex is an American DJ and producer, born Sonny John Moore in Los Angeles in 1988. After fronting the post-hardcore band From First to Last, he reinvented himself as the producer who pushed dubstep into the mainstream.
Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites
His 2010 EP Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites helped set off the dubstep boom and won three Grammys, including Best Dance/Electronica Album. “Bangarang” (2011) brought two more.
OWSLA and Recess
He founded the label OWSLA in 2011, which broke artists like Porter Robinson, and released his debut album Recess in 2014. He also gave an early signal boost to Marshmello by sharing his music.
Where Are U Now
Teaming with Diplo as Jack U, he scored a number one with “Where Are U Now” featuring Justin Bieber (2015), and produced on Bieber’s album Purpose. He later joined J Balvin on “In da Getto”.
Most awarded in EDM
With around eight Grammys, the most of any electronic act, he returned in 2023 with two albums released a day apart, Quest for Fire and Don’t Get Too Close.
