Post Malone is one of the most genre-fluid hitmakers of his era, a singer and rapper who slides between hip-hop, pop, rock and country without losing his audience. Born Austin Richard Post on July 4, 1995, in Syracuse, New York, and raised in Texas, he broke through in 2015 and has rarely left the charts since. He holds nine diamond-certified singles, second only to Drake, and has sold more records than almost anyone of his generation.
White Iverson and Stoney
His first single, “White Iverson”, went viral in 2015 and led to a deal with Republic Records. The 2016 debut album Stoney produced “Congratulations” with Quavo and broke a long-standing chart record once held by Michael Jackson. It marked him as a new kind of star, hard to file under any one genre.
Beerbongs, Bentleys and Rockstar
Beerbongs & Bentleys, in 2018, debuted at number one and gave him the chart-topping singles “Rockstar” with 21 Savage and “Psycho”. The same year, “Sunflower”, his duet with Swae Lee for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, became the highest-certified song in US history. He was suddenly one of the most-streamed artists alive.
Hollywood’s Bleeding and Circles
Hollywood’s Bleeding followed in 2019 with “Circles”, which spent more than a year on the Hot 100 and stands as his biggest single. The albums Twelve Carat Toothache and Austin kept him on the charts into the 2020s, even as he started reaching toward new sounds.
The 2024 collaborations
2024 was a banner year. He guested on Taylor Swift‘s “Fortnight”, the lead single from The Tortured Poets Department, and it debuted at number one. He sang on Beyonce‘s “Levii’s Jeans” from Cowboy Carter. And his country duet “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallen topped the Hot 100, setting up his next move.
F-1 Trillion
F-1 Trillion, released in 2024, was a full country turn, with guests including Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley and Luke Combs. It became his third number-one album. For all his commercial success, he is one of the few artists with that many hits and no Grammy wins yet, despite eighteen nominations, a streak fans keep waiting to see broken.
