Kesha is an American singer, songwriter and rapper who defined a wave of glittery party-pop at the turn of the 2010s. Born Kesha Rose Sebert on March 1, 1987, in Los Angeles, she learned songwriting from her mother and broke through with a rap-sung style all her own.
Tik Tok
Her 2010 debut album Animal hit number one, led by “Tik Tok”, which spent nine weeks atop the Hot 100 and became one of the best-selling digital singles ever. “Your Love Is My Drug” and “Take It Off” followed.
Party anthems
The Cannibal EP gave her another number one in “We R Who We R”, and her album Warrior (2012) brought “Die Young”. She also wrote for other stars, including Miley Cyrus, and joined Nicki Minaj on a remix of Britney Spears’s “Till the World Ends”.
Timber
In 2013 she sang the hook on Pitbull‘s “Timber”, a worldwide number one that became one of her two diamond-certified singles.
Rainbow and beyond
Her 2017 album Rainbow marked a comeback after a long legal dispute with her former producer, led by the Grammy-nominated “Praying”. She has since released High Road (2020), Gag Order (2023) and Period (2025), her first record on her own label.
